Nintendo Wii Component Recall

Staff Writer, Dec 15, 2006

The Nintendo Wii was oficially launched in the U.S. less than a month ago (November 17), and yet problems have already risen, forcing the video game giant to recall some of its  components. After multiple reports of injuries sustained while playing with the new gaming system, Nintendo has opted to recall more than three million Wii controller straps.

The incidents reported as a result of the exciting new Wii system range from personal injuries to damage to nearby objects. One woman, for example, got so caught up in her bowling game that she accidentally propelled her controller into her 37-inch television set. An estimated 500,000 Wiis have been sold since the launch date.

Nintendo had taken some intial measures by telling its followers to calm down, but has now seen itself forced to improve the controller's wrist strap. The original version, made out of fabric, was hardly durable in the hands of ecstatic gamers.

Another component that was recalled was the DS and DS Lite console AC adapter. This only took place in Japan, though, meaning that the sale of adapters abroad will not be affected.
