Zyprexa

Zyprexa, which is one of the many trade names of the drug Olanzapine, is a widely popular anti-psychotic drug utilized in the treatment of bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia in both adults and children. The drug has been under scrutiny for years regarding links to increased risk for diabetes and obesity due to increased blood sugar levels of patients taking the drug. Additional allegations include a widespread downplaying of these risks by the drug’s maker, Eli Lilly and Company. Since legal action against the company began, Eli Lilly has paid out nearly $1.2 billion in settlement money to patients taking Zyprexa that developed diabetes complications, and another $1.4 billion in fines was paid out by Eli Lilly for illegally marketing the drug.
