Risperdal has been the subject of many lawsuits as of late, as it has become the most widely used anti-psychotic medication in the world. Over 2/3 of the profits from the sale of Risperdal are derived from nonmedically necessary uses of the drug. Many of the pending lawsuits claim that Risperdal used fraudulent advertising in order to dishonestly promote the safety and effectiveness of the drug. At the same time, its manufacturer targeted the drug to treat other medical conditions such as sleep disorders, depression, and dementia in the elderly.
