Product Liability Claim

A product liability claim in general deals with whether a product was dangerous or defective in some manner, and if the product in fact caused a consumer's alleged injury. Through filing a claim against a product's manufacturer, seller, and/or distributor, a consumer can attempt to gain compensation for injuries caused by a defect in a product. In cases involving large amounts of people who have been injured by a defective product, some products liability lawyers will seek to have multiple cases consolidated together in order to create a class action lawsuit. By getting certification of a lawsuit as a class action, and generating publicity along with the class action lawsuit, lawyers hope to pressure companies responsible for defective products into entering into a settlement that will benefit all consumers injured by the defective product. Some examples of high-profile class action lawsuits include those involving certain prescription antidepressant medications, as well as silicone breast implants.
