Although the Ortho Evra Patch has not been taken off the market, watchdog groups are warning women to select another form of birth control. Because the estrogen and progesterone from the patch is absorbed directly through the skin, women receive 60% more medication than the traditional pill. Unfortunately, it also increases the probability of blood clots, a stroke, or a heart attack. The drug company changed the label, but it may not be clear to consumers just has dangerous the drug can be. It should be taken off the market or at least have a black box warning. Women need to know that there are better and safer options available.
