First, identify theft continues to be a serious problem in the United States, and even internationally, as computer identify thieves become more and more savvy in finding ways to gain crucial identifying information that permits theft and other types of security breaches. Next, Internet scams are prolific, and it can sometimes be difficult to tell the difference between legitimate businesses and fraudulent companies. While state attorney general's offices have increasingly become involved in cracking down on Internet business scams, as well as certain federal governmental agencies, criminals continue to find means to steal unwitting consumers' identities. One such common scam is the work-at-home, Internet-based business.
