Gleevec

Gleevec is for the treatment of certain types of cancer-Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) and Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST). It works by preventing the development of abnormal cells. Studies have shown that up to 80% of these cancer patients remain free of the disease for up to 5 years. However, some patients have reported congestive heart failure, if the treatment continues for more than a year. Because it also lowers the development of white blood cells, you may be more susceptible to infections. You may also have trouble clotting your blood, so you will need to be careful not to sustain a cut.
