Consumer protection lawyers are those legal professionals who specialize in some area(s) of the law related to protecting consumers from injury or harm. In many cases, their practice involves product liability law, which governs compensation for consumers who have been harmed by unreasonably dangerous and/or defective products when using them in the normal course of their lives. Other consumer protection lawyers, however, specialize in other types of consumer protection law, such as the regulation and laws related to personal finances. For instance, bankruptcy lawyers may be considered to be consumer protection lawyers in that they protect consumers from creditors pursuant to federal bankruptcy laws and other legislation, such as the Federal Debt Collection Practices Act. Still other types of consumer protection lawyers deal with lemon laws related to the sale of automobiles, consumer credit rights, mortgage foreclosures, and other types of legal actions and lawsuits that directly impact important consumer rights.
