Consumer Protection Home Page

The Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) Bureau of Consumer Protection maintains a consumer protection home page that gives detailed educational information for consumers about a wide variety of consumer law-related issues. In particular, the FTC provides very current information about the latest medical devices and treatments that may pose hazards or unwanted side effects for consumers. The FTC home page also gives information about reporting defects in medical products, devices, and treatments, and where to start in making a claim for injuries or harm resulting from such products. Examples of medical devices and treatments covered by FTC publications include at-home genetic tests, Lasik eye surgery, tanning beds, hearing aids, and sunscreens, among other products and/or treatments. By providing consumers with essential information about medical products or treatments that consumers may be considering, the FTC hopes to raise awareness about and help consumers avoid unanticipated dangers of these products, devices, and/or treatments.
