Aredia Drug

Aredia is a prescription drug that is used to treat excess calcium in the blood, which can result from certain types of cancer, as well as Paget's Disease, a medical condition that results in weak bones. In 2004, Aredia's manufacturer, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, issued a warning that Aredia caused a medical condition called Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (ONJ) in cancer patients, and changed its prescribing information to describe this risk. ONJ causes the jawbone to partially crumble and die, thus resulting in pain, lost teeth, lost functioning, and facial disfigurement. Aredia may also cause a range of other side effects, ranging from mild to quite severe, and has potential interactions with many other drugs and vitamins. Therefore, Aredia is a drug that can cause serious medical conditions, particularly in certain situations, and medical professionals, as well as a dental professional, should closely monitor patients taking the drug.
