Acetaminophen Drugs

Acetaminophen drugs are non-prescription pain relievers that consumers commonly take for fevers, as well as for minor aches and pains, such as those caused by minor arthritis. However, misusing or taking large amounts of acetaminophen can cause serious liver damage. Plus, taking acetaminophen with certain other types of drugs can increase the possibility of side effects such as liver damage. As a result, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended that the labeling and packaging of acetaminophen be changed to provide for warnings related to the risk of taking excessive amounts of acetaminophen in terms of liver damage. Additionally, a massive recall of approximately 11 million various store-brand acetaminophen caplets occurred in 2006, after it was discovered that some of the caplets contained small metal fragments. For these reasons, it is essential that consumers take care in adhering to recommended dosages of acetaminophen, and minimizing their usage if at all possible.
