Recalled Children’s Earrings in Florida due to Lead Poisoning Hazard

Staff Writer, Oct 05, 2007

On July 17, 2007 a recall was initiated for two types of children earrings sold in Florida Wal-Mart stores. Uncas Manufacturing Co. of Providence, RI, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the voluntary recall of the products due to the possibility of potential lead poisoning. The Chinese manufactured earrings contain high levels of lead, and can be extremely toxic if ingested. Lead paint can cause brain damage in children if ingested. Currently, no incidents or injuries have been reported in Florida.

The earring sets recalled are as follows:

  • Sleeping Beauty Crown
  • Cinderella Star

The packaging is shaped like a heart and printed on the front is, “The Wonderful World of Disney.” Each package has two separate sets of earrings, one set of a Disney character and the other set either stars or crowns. The Florida Wal-Mart stores sold these items from February 2007 to June 2007. If you have any of these products please return them to Uncas Manufacturing Co. for a refund.
